Got Logs?

IMG_9970.JPG

Hello and welcome to our log procurement page. As you can image there are many logistics that go into retrieving logs from an urban environment. Please take a few minutes to read through the following information which will help you determine if we might be interested in your logs. We very rarely buy logs or trade logs for a share of the wood.

Please email epilogueurbanlumber@gmail.com with the following information:

  1. Removal date.

  2. Name and contact information of the tree company doing the removal.

  3. Address and general location of the tree/logs (front yard or backyard).

  4. Permission to enter the property to evaluate the tree for lumber potential.

  5. One to three photos showing the main trunk of the tree.

  6. Species of tree being removed.

  7. The diameter of the logs and general lengths.

*To determine the diameter of the log, measure around the base of the tree and divide that number by three.

Site visits and coordinating log pick ups:

Due to the large volume of inquires, we may or may not be able to get back to you in a timely fashion. We totally understand if this doesn’t work for your schedule and you end up working with a different company. We are often unable to give a specific time to stop by and evaluate your trees for lumber potential.

In general we prefer to coordinate schedules and logistics directly with the tree company taking care of the removal.

Not all logs are created equal. Thousands of trees around the Portland Metro area are removed every year for various reasons. Unfortunately, we are not able to save every tree from the firewood pile. Often the logs don’t make the grade for a few reasons:

  1. The log has a poor shape including a very short trunk, excessive lean/curve or rot.

  2. Metal embedded in the wood.

  3. Poor access to retrieve the logs.

Will property damage occur when logs are picked up?

We do our best to responsibly remove logs with minimal damage to lawn areas, garden beds, paved surfaces and nearby structures. However, we are unable to guarantee that no damage will occur and cannot be held responsible for any repairs or damage.

If this is a concern we totally understand and realize the logs in question may need to be cut into firewood lengths for safe removal.

Hauling away excess firewood, brush or sawdust

Generally we are only interested in picking up sawlogs. We charge 100.00/hour with a two hour minimum to haul away excess brush, firewood and sawdust and will only do so if time in our schedule permits.

Is my tree worth money

We seldom pay money or trade wood for logs from urban tree removals. The time it takes to meet with landowners, coordinate the tree companies and pick up logs removes any opportunity for compensation-especially if we are only picking up a few logs. Keep in mind logs properly bucked to length, loaded on a truck and delivered to our mill have value. Logs sitting in a yard generally don’t.

If you do have nice quality sawlogs trimmed to 8’6”, 10’6”, and 12’6” with lengths over 18” in diameter that can be delivered to our mill site, we generally pay .10 cents to .50 cents a board foot in log form (100/1000-500/1000) depending on the species and grade of the wood. We can pay more for nice quality black walnut. Poorly shaped logs not trimmed properly will be refused.

We are often overstocked on logs and may not be picking up or taking log deliveries. Email us and we will try to let you know our level of interest right away.
